What automated accessibility tests (axe-core) detect, what they do not, and the most common mistakes.

WHAT IT IS

An accessible website can be used by people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities, with screen readers, keyboard only or zoom. The usual reference is WCAG 2.1 level AA.

WHY IT MATTERS

It is about inclusion, business (more people can buy from you) and, increasingly, the law in the EU. Automated tests find part of the problems; the rest needs human review.

COMMON MISTAKES

• Insufficient text/background contrast (at least 4.5:1 for normal text).
• Images without alt text.
• Form fields without labels.
• Buttons or links without a name (icon only).
• No landmarks or ordered headings.

• A11Y_VIOLATION v1.0.0 — An axe-core rule failing on one or more elements of the analysed pages.
