Cookies & consent
Which cookies and trackers a website loads before consent and why it matters.
WHAT IT IS
Cookies and analytics or advertising tools that are not strictly necessary usually require the visitor’s prior consent. "Prior" means they should not load until the visitor accepts in the banner.
WHY IT MATTERS
A banner that shows up but blocks nothing does not do its job: tracking has already started. Beyond your visitors’ privacy, it may have legal implications (GDPR / cookie rules).
COMMON MISTAKES
- Loading Google Tag Manager/Analytics or ad pixels directly in the HTML.
- The CMP shows the banner but is not wired to the scripts.
- A hidden or missing "Reject" button.
HOW WE CHECK IT
- PRIV_COOKIES_INITIAL v1.0.0 — Which cookies (name and attributes only, never values) and local storage the site sets on load, before the visitor does anything.
- PRIV_TRACKERS_INITIAL v1.0.0 — Whether known analytics or advertising domains are contacted before any visitor interaction.
