Which external services your website contacts when loading, why you should know them and how to reduce them.

WHAT IT IS

Almost every website loads something external: fonts, CDNs, videos, maps, chats, payments or analytics. Each third party receives, at least, the visitor’s IP and the page visited.

WHY IT MATTERS

Each third party is a dependency: it affects speed, privacy (and what you must declare in your policy) and security if that service is compromised.

COMMON MISTAKES

• Not knowing which third parties the site loads (plugins adding things silently).
• Loading fonts or libraries from CDNs when they could be self-hosted.
• Not declaring them in the privacy policy.
